─── ABOUT THE DOCTOR ───

What sparked the doctor’s interest in and deeper focus on periorbital surgery?

What sparked the doctor’s interest in and deeper focus on periorbital surgery?
Since I am someone who enjoys precision and also likes performing small-scale surgeries, when looking at the area to be operated on around the eyes, I can see the entire surgical field within my field of vision. This makes me feel that everything that happens from the moment I make the first incision is within my sight and under my control. That is why I enjoy microsurgery of the eye.
How does understanding the structure of the eyeball and eye muscles help the doctor design eyelids that look beautiful and complement the face?
Once we understand the entire structure of the eye socket and know which structures are important, what should or should not be removed, and how the patient’s eyes may change as they age, we can design the patient’s features in a way that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also based on safety.

Philosophy and approach to work

When patients are concerned about uneven eyes or worry that their eyelids may look too thick after surgery, how do you talk to them and analyze their concerns?
When we perform the surgery, we measure and mark everything beforehand to ensure that both sides are even. However, the injection of local anesthesia, swelling, and bleeding on each side can make the eyes look uneven temporarily. Once the swelling subsides, I am confident that they will be even. In cases involving the eye muscles, the swelling usually takes a little longer to settle. However, I also have my own special technique for correcting weak eye muscles, which helps reduce the swelling and allows the eyes to settle more quickly.
What is your definition of “beautiful and captivating eyes”?
The eyes are the windows to the soul. Therefore, bright-looking eyes without under-eye bags can give us a better appearance and make us look more attractive. Beautiful eyes should also complement the overall face and eyebrows, with the inner and outer corners of the eyes positioned at a well-balanced distance.

Expertise and specialized techniques

What is your technique for managing excess fat and skin during double eyelid surgery to minimize swelling and bruising?
I have my own specialized technique that helps minimize swelling and bruising after surgery. For cases involving weak eye muscles, I also use a specialized technique that helps reduce swelling and bruising while leaving no external scars.
When correcting sunken eyes, droopy eyelids, or uneven eyes, what technique do you use to conceal the incision and achieve a smooth, natural-looking result?
Taking the time to carefully close the incision without rushing naturally helps the wound heal beautifully.

Q&A with Dr. Kun

───

What types of eyes should consult with the doctor before deciding to undergo eye surgery?

In fact, everyone should have their eyes examined and have an individualized design before surgery because each person’s eye structure is different, and an eyelid crease that looks beautiful on one person may not be suitable for another. In particular, people with uneven eyes, droopy-looking eyes, sagging eyelids, drooping eyebrows, dry eyes, or a history of previous eye surgery or injections around the eyes should undergo a thorough examination first to determine where the problem originates and which approach would be most appropriate for correction.

If I have already had double eyelid surgery, will my eyes have problems as I get older?

Having double eyelid surgery does not mean that our eyes will stop changing as we age.
As time passes, our eyes and facial features naturally change with age. If we feel that the shape of our eyes has changed in the future, it does not necessarily mean that the initial surgery was not successful. Rather, it is because our eyes continue to change with age, just like other parts of the face.
If you would like to take care of or make further adjustments, I will first assess what has caused the changes in your eye shape at that time, so that the most appropriate approach can be selected for each individual.

Can I return to work immediately after double eyelid surgery?

If you have a light workload or work in front of a computer, some people may be able to return to work within approximately 2–3 days. However, there may still be swelling, bruising, and tightness during the initial period. If your work involves meeting clients or appearing on camera, it is recommended to allow around 7–14 days for recovery. Strenuous exercise should be avoided until the stitches have been removed.
