─── ABOUT THE DOCTOR ───
Background and inspiration
Further education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has given the doctor a deeper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the face. This helps in planning appropriate treatment by considering both the perspective of a facial contouring surgeon and that of individuals whose preferences for facial features are influenced by social values.
Philosophy and approach to work
It is a challenging and interesting field that can transform a person’s face and life, helping them look better and feel more confident.
Areas of expertise and techniques
I start by discussing the patient’s concerns and expectations, then incorporate them with personalized techniques and an individualized treatment plan to achieve the results the patient desires.
Areas of expertise and procedures offered
Covers facial contouring surgery, from cheekbone reduction and jaw reduction to complex revision cases.
Q&A with Dr. Hang
Many patients have concerns about the safety of surgery. Could you explain how you care for patients throughout the entire treatment process?
Part 1 – Before surgery: Every patient undergoes a CT scan to provide a detailed assessment of the key anatomical structures of the face. A comprehensive physical examination is also performed prior to every surgery.
Part 2 – During surgery: General anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist, with sterile surgical instruments and appropriate safety measures used throughout the procedure.
Part 3 – After surgery: Patients receive close postoperative care from the doctor’s team, along with regular follow-up assessments to monitor their recovery and ensure that the results progress as planned and in accordance with the patient’s expectations.
Patients often ask whether there will be visible scars after cheekbone reduction and how long the swelling will last. Could you explain this?
For cheekbone reduction, the surgical technique primarily involves placing the incisions inside the oral cavity to conceal the scars. A small incision may also be made and concealed along the hairline, depending on the cheekbone reduction technique performed.
To help reduce postoperative swelling, I emphasize the use of cold and warm compresses, as well as wearing a facial compression band as planned and recommended for each patient.
How does facial skeletal surgery performed in conjunction with orthodontic treatment differ from general facial contouring surgery, and why is it more challenging?
In most cases of this type, two main issues need to be addressed: the facial skeletal structure and dental occlusion. Therefore, the procedure is more complex and challenging than general facial contouring surgery, as it requires facial skeletal modification and jaw repositioning in conjunction with orthodontic treatment.
